18th century castle with concierge, wooded park and panoramic view
18th century castle with concierge, wooded park and panoramic view. Chartreuse atmosphere, quality of the building, preserved old features, concierge and watchtower renovated into a gîte, period stone cistern. This ancient lordship, built on a feudal mound, was owned by the Grossolles family from the 14th to the 19th century, as evidenced by the coat of arms adorning the high ironwork gate. Originally a medieval castle, the building was partially demolished and then rebuilt in the 18th century, above the old castle and in a less warlike and more elegant version. An old mullioned window is still visible in one of the cellars, a testament to the former medieval castle. The current castle is notable for the quality of its construction, its beautifully wooded gardens, its commanding position, and its panoramic view of the countryside and valleys of the Lomagne region of Gers, facing the Pyrenees. The interior layout of the castle has the simplicity of a charterhouse, both understated and elegant. Some old but well-preserved features borrow from the Louis XV style, such as the fretwork of the woodwork and fireplaces, and Louis XVI style with the wide interior stone staircase and its ironwork banister. The rooms are spacious and bathed in light thanks to the large, tall wooden windows. The gardens are equally charming and offer opportunities to stroll in the shade of the beautiful trees or to sit on the terrace or under the large oak trees to admire the panorama. Among the remarkable buildings on the estate are this charming watchtower with its moat fed by a spring and the old stone cistern still supplied with water by an ancient roof water collection system. Despite the centuries, the château is in a good state of preservation. Its roof is maintained and it has benefited from various renovations, including the Conciergerie, which was completely renovated to become a gîte. However, improvement work remains to be considered, such as installing a heating system in the château if you wish to reside there in winter and bringing the sanitation up to standard. Currently, the château is a vacation spot for the owners, who also successfully operate the Conciergerie and the Watchtower as gîtes. The château consists of twelve rooms (living rooms and bedrooms), three furnished and equipped kitchens, three bathrooms, two powder rooms, small storage areas, two small cellars, an attic, and four outdoor terraces. The Conciergerie consists of a living room with a fireplace, a fitted kitchen, three bedrooms, a bathroom with a bathtub and shower, a toilet, an outbuilding with a laundry room and storage space, and a private garden. The Watchtower includes a living room with a kitchenette on the ground floor and a bedroom and powder room upstairs. This beautiful property, with its rich and prestigious past, could easily become a beautiful and spacious family home. Its location, close to amenities and schools, will allow your family to thrive in peace and quiet, enjoying the benefits of country living.
